Small random-orbit or pad sanders make this job go faster. (Wallis first covers these boundaries with Synkoloid patching compound so no edge is visible after sanding.) As shown, you want to make sure that there is a feathered, smooth transition from exposed wood to old paint. For areas that might get close scrutiny, you can follow up with a 100- or 120-grit rubdown to erase any scratches.
I’ve got approx 1,500 sq ft house to paint. All trim is stained wood with poly, trim is to be sanded, primed n painted gloss white with 12 interior doors. 4 inch crown as well throughout. Minor drywall repair also. I need the work right now so I’m trying to bid the job so I get it but not leave too much money on the table. I’m thinking about 1,750 to do the job…labor only. Any help? Hi Mensah, we see all ranges of pricing for exterior house painting, but usually the pricing falls between $1.00 – $1.50 per square foot. Which means the price would roughly be $2,500 – $3,750. Please keep in mind that prep-work and other factors play a huge role in the cost. Also the quality of materials, ladder placements, drastic color changes etc. Broomfield Home Painting
When the primer is dry, caulk all small joints (less than ¼-inch-wide) in the siding and trim. Most pros use siliconized acrylics—paint won't stick to straight silicones—but Guertin and O'Neil like the new, more expensive urethane acrylics for their greater flexibility and longevity. O'Neil stresses that it's shortsighted to skimp on caulk. "If the joint fails, you're back to square one." Guertin uses the lifetime rating as his quality guide. "I don't expect 35-year caulk will last 35 years, but it should last longer than a 15-year caulk."
how do i calculate time for this job. is it as simple as your comment above 3x more for difficult jobs like peeling and wood damage, where does cutting in come into play. the area i have is a long narrow section around a top of a building. with the channel siding i have to cut in the top and i cant just do it quick each piece needs to get done individually.
I stumbled across this article as I was looking into “How to estimate paint jobs”. This is totally awesome article! I worked for a painting company for 20+ years as a bookkeeper, and my husband is a painter. I have moved on from that job a few years now and we want to start venturing out to bid some small jobs to start and get our feet wet as a side job until it can be something full time. I just need to build my confidence in estimating a job. This article is a great start. Thank you very much! Hope to comment again after we have a job under our belt! Bless. Broomfield Home Painting
A single gallon of paint can run anywhere from $20 to $80 per gallon. Professionals get a contractor discount of anywhere from 25 to 50 percent. For rough siding, like stucco, you’ll need to use 10% to 20% more paint. Some textures, like wood and stucco, require extra paint because they have more surface to cover in a tiny area compared to smooth siding. Use the highest quality exterior paint your budget will allow for your project. It will look the nicest and save you money by offering better coverage and durability. Better coverage means fewer coats and fewer work hours. You’ll also go a few years longer without needing to shell out more cash for a new coat. How do you know how much paint you're paying for?
