Most of a projects price is the cost of labor at $25 to $75 per hour. However, most contractors bid out based on the entire project which includes all work hours. Hourly rates are only useful if your pro asks to do the job as “time and materials.” However, be wary of this pricing structure, it usually shows the contractor is uncertain how long the project will take. Once you find a painting pro you want to hire, be sure to have a detailed contract that includes the scope of work and prices for all materials and paint that is being used. Find out how many coats of paint will be applied as well as the brand of paint that will be used. Most decent painting pros will use quality brands like BEHR or Sherwin Williams. The contract should also spell out the time frame to complete the project and as well as set up clean up details.
A single gallon of paint can run anywhere from $20 to $80 per gallon. Professionals get a contractor discount of anywhere from 25 to 50 percent. For rough siding, like stucco, you’ll need to use 10% to 20% more paint. Some textures, like wood and stucco, require extra paint because they have more surface to cover in a tiny area compared to smooth siding. Use the highest quality exterior paint your budget will allow for your project. It will look the nicest and save you money by offering better coverage and durability. Better coverage means fewer coats and fewer work hours. You’ll also go a few years longer without needing to shell out more cash for a new coat. How do you know how much paint you're paying for? If your home or apartment is more than 30 years old (constructed prior to 1978), there is a high chance that the current paint on the walls and window/door trim contains lead. This is a serious health hazard, especially if there are small children living in the home. If you suspect that there may be lead paint on your walls, its best to test for it and remove it, before putting on new coats of paint. Broomfield Home Painting
Hello, I’m Interested I’m beginning a painting business in homer Alaska and am curious on the price for bidding. My friends parents had a side of their house estimated and they said it was going to cost them a whopping 3500 dollars! Very small area to paint for that mark up price but everything in Alaska is very expensive so I was curious if that was normal. Also wondering if small towns are better or worse for new painting businesses? Would that mean for less clients but less competition? I’m very familiar with both interior and exterior painting but am very much skilled at new construction/production painting. I’m just not sure if somewhere like Alaska would be good for business especially during the winter.
Ceramic paint/coating is more of a gimmick (costing 3-4 times more than conventional paint job), marketed by national brands and local “premium” painting contractors. There has been no real testing done, to verify that Ceramic paint is in fact “lifetime”. Additionally, ceramic painting contractors define “lifetime” as it is beneficial to them, when WHEN a ceramic coating fails, these companies blame the homeowners for “lack of care and preventative maintenance”, and in many cases, refuse to do any warranty work. Hi Bob, you are correct in saying that ceilings usually take at least 1 coat. Especially if it is an off-white color (which is highly requested from homeowners). We usually factor ceilings in with a standard square footage. For example: $1.50 per square foot would mean $3,000 for a 2,000 square foot house. So ceilings are included in the square footage calculation.
Expect to pay between $600 to $3,500 or $1.25 to $3 per square foot to coat vinyl, with prices likely increasing for the finish. It is one of the more inexpensive siding materials to have repainted, especially with recent innovations in materials. Changing the finish on your siding is not recommended unless it's completely degraded and worn away by the weather. You can save nearly half the vinyl siding installation cost of $4 per square foot by painting rather than replacing. Before adding a new coat to vinyl siding, Broomfield Home Painting
Hey Chandler, we have a house 2565 sq ft with the old wood trim on windows and doors. Doors are solid dark wood. We would paint all walls and doors and trim and baseboards. We also would be painting the cabinets in the kitchen from wood to white. We are trying to determine a final all in labor cost + a timeframe to do the job. The trim is trim time is throwing us off a bit. And personally, thank you very much for your time and sacrifice on this blog you have helped many many people. House Painting Broomfield CO

Prepping a house costs anywhere from $0.50 to $2.50 per square foot. This is almost always included in the total project price. However, the DIYer might negotiate some discounts for completing this work on their own. Be warned, proper prep is key to the quality and durability of the finish. If you do this work yourself, the contractor might no guarantee to finished product.

Deciding which paint to use has gotten much easier now that acrylic latexes have pushed oil-based paints almost to extinction. The acrylics offer superior performance (they don't harden with age, the way oils do, so they move and breathe without blistering), they don't mildew as readily, and they emit fewer VOCs, so they comply with new air-quality regulations. They also work over both oil- and water-based primers. Broomfield Home Painting
I’m buying a house and closing on May 6th. We need the entire interior painted, It’s 2179 square feet and the home will be empty of all furniture when the painting is to be done. There is minimum prep work as far as nail holes, and one spot from water damage that will need some prep work. It’s a two story house with 3 bedrooms upstairs, and the foyer goes up to the second floor. I would like the paint to be high quality, egg shell, washable. House Painting Broomfield CO
As the dance proceeds, keep an eye on the weather. Rain can wash freshly applied latex right off the wall, and a temperature dip below 50 degrees F two days after application can interfere with adhesion and curing and dull the sheen of glossy paints. (Latexes like Sherwin-Williams's Duration and Benjamin Moore's MoorGard Low Lustre are formulated to tolerate temps as low as 35 and 40 degrees, respectively.)
Paint supplies cost anywhere from $10 to $100 or more depending on what you need. Painters will typically provide most of the supplies for a project, but sometimes they will allow you to pay for solely labor if you provide all the materials yourself. You might decide to do a DIY paint job down the road. In which case having these supplies on-hand will save you time and money.
