When you say trim for an interior paint job are you including the interior doors? I usally charge $25 a side, unless damaged, then it’s $50 a side in addition to the trimwork. Also, I think your calculations for paint needed for new construction are a little low, we just completed a 1550 sq ft house with a couple coats of PVA on the ceinlings & walls, that required 35 gallons of wall/ceiling paint-same [email protected] $20.50 a gallon, and 7 gallons of a waterborne alkyd hybrid for the trim & doors @ $50 a gallon, and a gallon for a fireplace & accent wall color, a couple gallons of primer and 22 tubes of caulk, for a total of about $1450 for paint & supplies. We spray ceilings & trim, and cut & roll walls. Broomfield Home Painting
Good day. Stumbled on your site and spent some time reading. Great information. I’ve been applying coatings for some time now, but after that time still hit a stumbling block when putting together estimates for exterior work when doing brick homes that require doors, and the trim package. I’ve got a 4,000 sq ft ranch and has one high side where the driveway slopes down to a garage. Is everyone running linear feet pricing nowadays for fascia, soffit, and dentil moulding? I know different markets will have different tolerances. Trying to soundboard to see what most exterior guys are doing now. We’ve been indoors for some time now and branching back to more exterior work. Appreciate any advice and feedback. Thanks! House Painting Broomfield Colorado
Hi Chandler, This is such a great blog. I have spent some time reading the comments and find it so interesting. While reading the request from some people i kept thinking is there some way i can help. I myself have been painting and plastering over 26 years and have gained a lot of knowledge in my time. Over the last 12 years i have concentrated my efforts on Scoping measuring and quoting. Over that time i have designed a program that can measure labour, material, travel, margin etc. Weather it be interior, exterior painting or plastering anything realy. I am from New Zealand. We measure in Metric and Liters not imperial and gallons. This is not a problem as i can easily change the formulas to give me the correct measurements. The price of paint and materials are alot different in New Zealand too, but not to worry as i can also change the formulars in the forward costing tab so were reading from the same page. Please let me know if i can help and please delete if this is not the place for me to inquire.
I own a paintung (as does everyone else here of course), but I just wanted to mention my husband was a union painter for almost 10 years in the union, so theres really not job we cant do. With a sprayer or brush, industrial, residential or commercial. From houses to the ships that come to our local shipyard/docks. We decided to start our own business after seeing all the money he was making his company; with being one of the top 2 painters in our city. Unfortunately just days after establishing our business, COVID hit our nation. So, as we are struggling something fierce right now….we do have the skills, talent and ambition to do jobs..that we just need a little assistance finding lately.
Hello I been reading your blog. Filled with great information thank you. I have a question. I have been doing projects for these people for some time. I do a lot of carpentry and painting. They want me to do their interior painting. 1 problem they are planing on retiring and selling the home. It is in great shape, but the wife wanted to paint every room in the 2100 sq foot home. They got a price of $14,000 from 1 painter. I spoke to them and told them the paint and walls for the most part are in good shape and they will not get the money back when they sell for painting. I recommended doing what really needs to be done. I know why did I talk them out of a good money job , I am honest thats why. Problem is the base molding being 8′ with quarter round on a wood floor throughout and all the window casings, doors and door casings need painting. Plus a wall over fireplace a full bedroom ceiling walls closet.Bathroom wall entry from garage room. but all base molding on lower floor and half on upper floor needs to be prep sanded and painted. I will be using epoxy to fill some areas and 2 doors need to come off and work in garage due to large cracks. How do I price such a job that is so spaced out? Please help me I am lost for a price and need the work but don’t want to give it away. Thank you jim House Painting Broomfield CO
Hey Chandler, we have a house 2565 sq ft with the old wood trim on windows and doors. Doors are solid dark wood. We would paint all walls and doors and trim and baseboards. We also would be painting the cabinets in the kitchen from wood to white. We are trying to determine a final all in labor cost + a timeframe to do the job. The trim is trim time is throwing us off a bit. And personally, thank you very much for your time and sacrifice on this blog you have helped many many people. Broomfield Home Painting
Now the next step is to determine the cost of the color. If you know how much paint you’ll require for a specific measurement, then it is easy to estimate the cost of the paint. The price of a gallon of paint is between 10-15 dollars, but it varies according to the quality of paint. The cost of the paint depends on the quality or brand of it. A good paint must have all these characteristic: Broomfield Home Painting
Very nice blog. Pretty good information. BTW, how do you estimate the equipment cost for a painting project? You might have spray machines bought 3 years ago or may be renting such machines. So how much equipment cost will you charge for a given project? Also how about the overhead cost – like insurance, rent, ad, vehicle, utility, salary…etc… ? How do you figure out how much overhead cost to be charged on a given painting project? House Painting Broomfield Colorado
Hey so my boss and i just finished tearing the inside of an old. Barn apart and framing it into a 2 bed 1.5 bath plus an office. Sq ft is about 2300. Dry wall was just installed and textured and now its on me to paint and prime ceilings, walls and trim. Paint is paid for and supplies are paid for by my boss to help me out. Ill be doing the job by myself. What is a fair price to charge for labor?
